Meet our Volunteers – Tony Maycock

Tell us what convinced you to join Phoenix FM?

I wanted to join a community organisation and as I had past experience of DJ-ing Phoenix seemed like a good fit for me. I had just retired and wanted to find something creative to do to keep myself ticking over.

Training and support are given to all new volunteers and special talents are channeled into roles that complement their skill base.

How has your time with Phoenix FM been?

Fantastic. It is a unique opportunity to be a part of a Radio Station and during my time here (12 years) I have seen many, many people spend time with the station, develop important skills and then move onto new challenges. The staff and volunteers are all lovely people who encourage and support each other. I also like the ethos of the Station to support diversity and to welcome everybody to join our team.

What advice would you give anyone looking to join Phoenix FM?

Give it a try – what’s the worst thing that could happen. Cast off the tie-lines and let yourself go – you may just discover something that you really love and find fulfilling.
